Marriage Is for White People

Laurence Fishburne in Boyz N The Hood

I just can’t let this go unnoticed. I especially like the (black) author’s unqualified assumption that black women don’t marry because black men in general are drug-addicted criminals who only produce bastard children and health problems. And then there’s this:

“A number of my married friends complain that taking care of their husbands feels like having an additional child to raise.”

So men aren’t really men anymore; that’s not anything new. Black men, on the other hand, are children.

Any way you look at it, those statistics are pretty interesting. There’s a clear trend—white and black alike—towards de-emphasizing marriage, but it seems the black community has all but abandoned it. Are we really so different? Are black men generally terrible husbands? (Even if they’re good fathers.) Or is this just another example of white culture being a few years behind black culture?

George Bush doesn’t care about black people.
